Ridely Launches Horse Welfare Score to Close the Equine Care Education Gap
October 10, 2024

Ridely launched the Horse Welfare Score on July 29, 2025—a gamified, mobile-first learning platform designed to close the equine care education gap. It delivers bite-sized, science-backed modules on pain recognition, the five domains, nutrition, hoof care, ethical training, tack fit and stress signals, each reinforced by short quizzes and measured through points, badges and leaderboards. Developed with Equitation Science International, Agria UK, British Eventing and top industry experts, the initiative also offers a dedicated community space and invites brands, federations and welfare leaders to join in driving systemic, lasting improvements in equine welfare.

Ridely launched the Horse Welfare Score on July 29, 2025—a first-of-its-kind, gamified, trackable education experience designed to close the equine care education gap at the grassroots level. By translating cutting-edge science into bite-sized, mobile-first modules covering pain recognition, the five domains, essential nutrition, hoof care, ethical training, tack fit and stress signals, this platform makes learning accessible anytime, anywhere. “We realised we were perfectly positioned to make a real impact,” says Ingrid Sundqvist, Ridely’s CEO and Founder. Developed in collaboration with Equitation Science International, Agria UK, British Eventing and other horse-first organisations, the Horse Welfare Score equips riders and trainers with points, badges and leaderboards to drive engagement and measurable progress. Ridely now invites visionary brands, forward-thinking federations, insurers and welfare leaders to join this initiative and move beyond words to systemic, lasting change in equine welfare.

At its heart, the Horse Welfare Score blends equitation science, veterinary research and animal behaviour into a structured learning journey. Each module ends with a short quiz that reinforces key concepts and translates insight into real-world practice, building a transparent welfare score as you progress. Behind every lesson stands a team of internationally respected experts—from lameness specialist Dr Sue Dyson and equitation-science pioneer Dr Andrew McLean to dressage rider Jody Hartstone, farriery researcher Yogi Sharp, master saddler Jochen Schleese and bit-and-bridle authority Kim Gentry—ensuring every topic is grounded in the latest research and honed by hands-on experience. Beyond individual achievement, Ridely’s dedicated Welfare Community Group offers a space for participants to share insights, join expert Q&A sessions and celebrate milestones together. A modest daily commitment to learning can translate into meaningful improvements in equine quality of life—and with partnerships open to new collaborators, the Horse Welfare Score is poised to transform equine care on a global scale.
